Auckland Province Tennis Titles
Fine weather and a great gallery, attracted by the appearance of the Australian champions, J. Bromwich and J. H. Crawford, favoured the final day of the Auckland provincial lawn tennis championships. The day’s big highlight was the Auckland championship singles between J. Roach, Waikato champion, and J. T. Mayson, of West End Club, a match that went to five sets and lasted two hours before the honours went to the Waikato player. Results: Women’s Singles —Final: Miss M. Beverley (Waikato), beat Mrs Morse (Auckland), 6-2. 6-3. • Junior girls’ singles—Semi-final: Miss M. Hodges beat Miss I. Dryland. 6-2, 6-2. Intermediate men’s singles—Semifinal: A. S. Burns beat J. B. Smith, 6- 7-5. Intermediate men’s doubles —Semifinal: A. S. Burns and B. Broun beat J. B. and P. Smith 6-4. 6-4. Intermediate girls’ singles—Semifinal: Miss W. Smith beat Miss B. Potter, 6-2. 6-3. y Intermediate mixed doubles—'Semifinal: J. H. Moller and Miss B. Potter beat Smith and Miss W. Smith. 7- 6-1. # Women’s doubles—Final: Misses N. and M. Beverley beat Mrs W. G. Morse and Miss P. Cooke. 1-6, 6-3, 7-5. Men’s singles—Final: J. Roach beat J. T. Mayson, 1-6, 2-6. 6-3, 7-5. 9-7. Mixed doubles —Final: J. W. Gunn and Miss M. Beverley beat M. T. Wilson and Miss P. Cooke, 5-7. 6-3, 6-4. Intermediate women’s doubles— Misses M. and R. Hodges beat MlSses G. Buckley and B. Potter. 5-7, 6-2, fi-3. Intermediate mixed doubles—B. Broun and Miss N. Symes beat J. H. Moller and Miss B. Potter, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. Junior boys’ singles: P. Smith beat M. G. Casey, 5-6, 6-1, 6-4. Junior girls’ singles—Miss R. Hodges beat Miss M. Hodges, 7-5, 6-2. Exhibition Match The exhibition match between J. Bromwich and J. H. Crawford finished set-all, Crawford winning the first, 6-3, and Bromwich the next 6-2.
