Hikurangi Rink Undefeated In Bowls Tourney

Undefeated throughout the three days of play, -a Hikurangi rink won the Whangarei Bowling Club’s annual tournament which concluded last evening. In addition to annexing the Dr Campbell Rose Bowl, the principal trophy for the competition, the Hikurangi rink, comprising Cox, Smith, Johnston and McNay. won a barometer for each member.

The runners-up were Punch. Bickeno, Addison and Thomas, of Edendale. who each won a crystal bowl and servers.

The final was well contested, victory eventually going to McNay by 28 points to 16. Presiding at the presentation in the absence of the president (Mr. G. Wilding), who had been called to Wellington, the vice-president (Mr. D. X. McLeod) congratulated the Hikurangi rink on the fine performance in going through the tournament without a defeat.

The tournament had produced excellent competition with Hikurangi outstanding. He also complimented the runnersup and said the club much appreciated the splendid response from clubs as far afield as Matamata, Te Aroha, Helensvillc, Devonport, Edendale and Stanley Bay. while district clubs had also given excellent support.
