Dearer Whisky In Auckland

r Special to “Northern Advocate ”l AUCKLAND, This Day. Auckland hotels have advanced the price of whisky, and certain brands of gin by 6d a bottle. There was a rise of one shilling a bottle in December because of higher duties, so that prices have advanced 1/6 in two months. The latest increase is the result of increases in the wholesale charges. The rise on whisky by wholesalers is 6/9 a case; for several brands of gin it is 5/3 a case and for other 4/3. These increases were authorised by the Price Tribunal because of higher landed costs, and they were not introduced immediately after authority was obtained, but withheld until stocks which had actually borne the added costs were sold.
