“New York Times” Tribute To N.Z.
NEW YORK, January 25.
“Because New Zealand is a Democracy which has pointed the way for others in good citizenship, humane social legislation and progressive government, the memory of the settlers of 1840 deserves honouring in the United States,” says the “New York Times” in an editorial article.
"Wc Americans hope the war will touch New Zealand lightly. “We want this 100 years young Democracy to emerge with its strength and sanity unimpaired.
"We will need the co-operation of people like the New Zealanders in putting the democratic world together again at the end of the war.”
