Heat-Wave Grips N.S.W.
(Received 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. New South Wales is at present gripped in a heat-wave. Back-country centres are recording temperatures up to 114 degrees. Sydney reached 10G.3 yesterday afternoon, the highest since January 14 of last year, when the temperature exceeded 113 degrees. Bush fires have been raging all the week in surrounding suburbs. A fireman was killed and seven men were injured yesterday when an engine dashing to a fire overturned, pinning the crew beneath it.
Many homes have been menaced, but have been saved either by the efforts of the fire-fighters or by a fortunate change of wind.
