Farmer’s Death; Coroner’s Verdict

Death was due to a deep-seated gunshot wound in the heart, self-in-flicted while in a state of mental depression. This verdict was returned by the District Coroner (Mr G. H. Morrish) at an inquest at Nukutawhiti today, into the death of Robert Sinclair Allan, farmer, who was found shot dead near his house at Nukutawhiti on Sunday morning. Ella Johnstone Allan said her husband frequently complained about his health, and about 5 a.m. on January IG, he had told her he thought it would be better for her if he ended his life. Thomas Noble Blake said he had investigated a shot and had found Allan dead with a shotgun between his legs.
