- A 12-year-old boy, Douglas Bruce Pettit, son of Mr and Mrs A. E. Pettit, of Waikokopu, was drowned in a swimming pool in the Kopuawhara Stream yesterday afternoon. The boy had been spending a holiday with friends at a camp. He left with a 16-year-old girl, Betty Hardy, and her small brother for the pool to paddle. The two boys played in the shallow part for some time, but later Douglas Pettit was missing. His body was discovered in about ten feet of water.
