Could Not Swim, But Rescued Child
[Special to "Northern Advocate ”] NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. A New Plymouth woman who could not swim, went to the rescue of a child who had fallen into the lake at Pukekura Park. She held the child up until aid arrived. The child, Unice Mills, three-year-old daughter of Mrs A. Mills, of New Plymouth, was feeding ducks when she overbalanced and fell into deep water. Mrs Coombs courageously, plunged in, and, although she sank twice, was successful in keeping the child on the surface. When rescued Mrs Coombs was semiconscious.
