Double Feature Bill At Plaza
The awakening of a boy’s pride in ccuntry and tradition is the theme of "The Spirit of Culver,” one of the two excellent features on the Plaza Theatre’s new programme. The film, which opened last evening and which will be screened again tonight, stars Jackie Cooper and Freddie Bartholomew. Product of a post-war era, Cooper, son of a national hero, is sent to military college by the American Legion. To him it is merely a place of refuge with meals and a bed, his only pride being the Congressional Medal, highest American award for valour, awarded to his father.
His gradual awakening of pride in the school and his country, and- the return of his father who believes himself a coward and deserter, brings an absorbingly interesting film to a dramatic climax.
The second feature is "King * of China Town,” with Akim Tamiroff in the title role. Foot by a rival, Tamirolf is saved by a skilled surgeon tAnna May Wong), who believes the crime hah been committed .by her father (Sidney Toler). The battle of the rival gangsters against the background of Churn sToWn provides a thrilling story. V
