Drama and Comedy

On Regent Programme

Two contrasting features comprise the new programme which opened at the Regent Theatre last evening and which will be screened again tonight and on Monday evening. •‘Full Confession - ’ gives Victor McLaglen a role which fits his acting ability perfectly. Trying to steal a coat for his girl (Sally Ellers) he knocks out a nightwatchman and steals his gun with which he shoots a policeman. An innocent man is found guilty and sentenced to death when fate throws a priest (Joseph Calleia) in the way of learning of the other man's guilt. The psychological study of a guilty man fighting for his life while the priest insists on his confession provides McLaglen with an , opportunity for giving a great character performance.

The humorous antics of Will Hay, this time as a policeman sergeant who becomes famous in a boadcast because no arrests have been made in his area for 10 years, are given full scope in “Ask n Policeman."

Hay is threatened with dismissal because of his failure to secure arrests, and with his constables sets out to remedy the position, complications ensuing when he discovers a band of smugglers using the police cellar for the storage of contraband goods.
