Telescoping Of Carcases Makes Costs Higher
[Per Press Association. Copyright.! ASHBURTON, This Day.
Discussing the telescoping of carcases, the general manager of the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company (Mr. D. J. Shea) said the process could not be carried on until the animal heat had gone out of the carcase, necessitating a night shift, for which wages were very high. Recently men at the Fairfield Freezing Works received £3 for a night’s work, working out at 4d. a carcase.
An endeavour is to be made to induce the Government to allow the night shift to be worked on the same terms as a day shift.
