Fined For Shooting On Road

Shooting on a road cost two young men i £2 each and costs in the Whangaroi Court this morning. • William Tulley Laird and Frederick Joseph Martin each admitted a charge of having discharged a firearm on a road at Kirikopuni. A complaint had been recived of men in a car shooting at ducks in a sanctuary, said Senior-Sergeant A. Henderson. When interviewed Laird and Martin had said they had not been shooting at ducks and there was no evidence to show they had done so. Actions of this kind caused complaints ,as there was danger of animals or people behind hedges being hit.

Laird and Martin both told the magistrate (Mr Ferner) that they had not known they were committing an offence.
