Sharp Change In Hungarian, Rumanian Relations
LONDON, November 29,
The Rumanian Foreign Minister (Dr. Gafencu), addressing the Foreign Affairs Committee in Bucharest, emphasised the justice of the Treaty of Trianon governing Hungarian and Rumanian relations.
He said it was time Hungary recognised this, and added that Rumania had striven to reach an understanding, and had improved the welfare of the Hungarian minority. The Hungarian Foreign Minister (Co'iint Csaky), replying to Dr. Gafencu said Rumania was alone in her stubborn contention that the Treaty of Trianon effected a just Rumanian and Hungarian settlement. He added that a modification of the treaty was not only urgently desirable for Hungary’s good, but necessary for the preservation of central European peace.
The Bucharest correspondent of “The Times” comments that this sharp exchange marks a definite change in Hungarian and Rumanian relationships, which hitherto have maintained at least a surface appearance of conciliation.
