Children Entertained By Women’s Institute
A sumptuous spread was laid before 80 children bv members of the committee of the Hikurangi Women’s Institute. ~ It was their annual cmldren s party The function was held in the Parish Hall last Saturday. After tea, games and competitions were arranged.
Perhaps the feature of the evening was an entertainers’ competition. Almost every child present gave an item, and prizes were awarded in tne various sections. Most popular were the efforts of the tiny tots. In, this section a prize was awarded to tiny Joan and Eila McKenzie, whose “Boomps-a-Daisy” exhibition delighted the onlookers.
' Albert Hardie, who has only just commenced school, took anotner prize in the tiny tots’ section. Beautiful singing by Jessie Malcolm won. her first award for the “bigger girls,” and the item of Vernon Cossill and Derek Pearson gave them the decision in the boys’ event. The travelling parcel went to Johnnie Tomlinson, Ice creams and sweets were distributed. The party was as happy as it was well organised.
