Off Morning At Ellerslie

LATE SPORTING

[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND, This Day.

No. 3 grass track was available for fast work at Ellerslie this morning, but as several horses are having, an easy time since the Ellerslie meeting, there was not much galloping. The going was excellent.

Silver Quex strode over five furlongs in 1.71-5, increasing the speed over the last three, which took 39 4-5 sec.

Cheddington ran four furlongs in 54 4-ss, the last three taking 40s. Kelly finished up his work by running his last three furlongs in 39sec. The Kilbroney gelding has done well during the short time he has been in work.

The two-year-olds, the Dude and Grey Wing, were given an easy halfmile, which took 565, the last three furlongs taking 41s.

Paint’s Good Style,

Melvanui came home from the six furlong post in 1.19 3-5, his last five taking 1.6, and Gay f ßroney completed six in 1.19 1-5, his last half-mile taking 51 2-ss.

After running his first furlong in 13s, Paint left half a mile in 51s. This hack is doing everything required of him in good style. Bambury Cross reeled off half a mile in 52 2-5 s promising effort. Armacourt worked with plenty of dash while traversing five furlongs in 1.4 2-ss, the first furlong being covered in 13 4-ss.

Glen Abb came home from the three furlong post in 375., which shows that he is improving.

Akanora From Speedy Family.

Akanora completed three furlongs in 39 4-ssecs. She is a three-year-old filly by Vaals from Mauriaena and comes from a very speedy family.

There was little between Stratford and the Appellant-Marble Bell gelding at the conclusion of three furlongs in 39 4-ssecs. The Appellant gelding is showing plenty of promise. Tristram Shandy was going nicely while traversing a similar distance in 40secs.

The two-year-old Prudence dashed over three furlongs in 37 3-ssecs, and Llandaff was going well within himself while completing a similar task in 37 4-ssecs. Mon Acre was also sent three furlongs, taking 39 4-ssecs, Golden Bonnet occupying 42 3-ssecs.-

Trevace Pleasing Over Hurdles.

Aero Queen was tried over a couple of pony hurdles. She cleared the first, but blundered at the second. Trevace was also tried, giving a very pleasing showing. Valspear did not impress while being schooled over the same fences. He balked on a couple of occasions, but eventually cleared a couple lying on the ground. The Hunting Song filly, Hunter’s Rose, formerly trained by C. Morse at T.akanini, has joined R. S. Bagby’s team at Ellerslie.
