Amateur Athletic Club Results

Under adverse weather condition? the Whangarei Amateur Athletic Club continued its series of weekly points meetings in the High School grounds last evening, when three events were decided. Results:

100 Yards Men—R. Quinlan (3yds) 1, A. Martin (4yds) 2. R. Thomas (10yds) and C. Philpott (9yds), equal, 3. Time, 10 l-ssecs.

Getting away smartly at gunfire, the field quickly swept to halfway where Thomas and Philpott were in the van. However, the virtual scratch men, Quinlan and Martin, came through smartly to fight out a good finish, with the first-named taking the honours. Thomas and Philpott shared third points, the judges being unable to separate them.

One Mile, men. —M. Alach (120yds) 1, C. Philpott (scr) 2, B. Baylis (120yds) 3, N. Dyer (80yds) 4, R. Thomas (220yds) 5, S. Mortimore (200yds) 6. Time, 4mins 44 3-10 secs. From an even start, Thomas quickly clapped on the pace and on the completion of the first lap was leading Mortimore and Dickey by 20 yards. Plodding along in front, Thomas w.as still the pilot when two laps were completed. just ahead of Alach, who had moved up smartly, with Mortimore a couple of yards further back. Alach, bowling along in good style, was the leader along the back straight, and he maintained this position at the end of the third lap, with Baylis. Dyer .and Thomas in close attendance. Philpott, who had been gradually working his way through the field from scratch, turned on the speed in

the final lap, and mowed down the field, with the exception of Alach, who responded with a strong sprint and took the decision. Philpott was just ahead of the fast-finishing Baylis, with Dyer, Thomas and Mortimore filling the next places. Javelin throw—S. Mortimore (21ft.) 119 ft., 1; N. Dyer (scr), 115 ft 3in., 2; M.
