17 Living In Six-Roomed House

! Special Io “Northern Advocate"] GISBORNE, This Day.

Seventeen people, the majority of whom were over 15 years of age, were living in a house containing four bedrooms and two living rooms, the Town Clerk reported to the Borough Council. It was, he said, evidence of the prevalence of overcrowding and the shortage of dwellings. The Mayor (Mr D. W. Coleman. M.P.) said that most of the information had been revealed in a housing survey made by the council recently. The housing shortage was so acute that people were coming to him practically every day asking if he knew whore they could secure a home.
