Quick.—ln the Greymouth Magistrate’s Court, Percival John O’Brien, aged 29, was fined £ls and his license cancelled for twelve months for being intoxicated in charge of a car early on Sunday morning. It was stated that O’Brien came from the country on Friday and purchased a car and obtained a driver’s license on Saturday.

Training-.— About 700 members of the Divisional Cavalry and the New Zealand Engineers in camp at Ngaruawahia will leave on Sunday for Waiouru, near Taihape, to carry out advanced training in military manoeuvres, extending over about a fortnight.

Gorge.—The Manawatu Gorge Road was again blocked by a slip, which came down late yesterday afternoon at the same place where trouble was experienced last week and on several previous occasions. The spot is about a mile from the Woodville end, where a cliff that overhangs the highway is reported to be in a very dangerous condition.

Collapsed.—Collapsing in a tramcar in Ponsonby Road, Auckland, last evening', Mr William John Burns, aged about 50, single, of 20 Wood Street, Ponsonby,' died after being taken into the surgery of a doctor. Mr Burns, who was formerly a millhand, had not worked for some time on account of ill-health.

Detonator, —When a detonator he was handling exploded, a boy, John Bruce Wheeler, aged 11, son of Mr E. N. Weaver, of Te Hoe, Orini, lost several fingers of the right hand. He was admitted to the Waikato Hospital.

Killed.—A married man, Mr Henry Tahu, aged 36, suffered severe injuries. from which he later died, at the Challenge Phosphate Company’s works at Otahuhu yesterday morning. An iron door fell and pinned him against a brick wall. He suffered severe lacerations, shock, and an injury to the pelvic bone, dying at 9.40 last night.
