Waikato Trades Council To Ignore Hamilton Protest

Regarding the decision of business men in Hamilton to close their shops on Monday afternoon next as definite political tactics, the Labbur movement in Hamilton has taken active steps to oppose' the business commuAt a meeting of the Waikato District Trades Council last night the matter was fully ■ discussed and agreement was reached by unanimous decision on the steps that the supporters of the Government should adopt. They are invited to ignore the meeting altogether. “Ignore Meeting.” The following resolution was passed at the meeting; “That the secretary cause to be published a notice that the proposed mass meeting of retailers and importers is regarded by this council as political tactics to discredit the Labour Government and cause a split in organised Labour. “That all persons who sympathise with the Government’s efforts to improve the conditions of the people be invited to ignore the mass meeting. “That a record of all places of business which close for the purpose of the mass meeting be made and supplied to all affiliated Labour bodies.” Support for Addington Motion.
The trades council also passed a resolution supporting the resolution of the Addington branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, which protested against the resolution adopted by the Progress League and Chamber of Commerce regarding the lengthening of hours of work.
