University Extension Lecture Grant

“NINEVEH & ITS ROBBER KINGS”

The lecture will deal with the ruthless imperialism of a lost city; how from the realistic art and the inscriptions found within the last century in the stronghold of the Assyrian Kings and the ruins of ancient Palestine towns modern archaeology has pieced together the story of the savage power whose only contribution to eastern civilisation was systematic barbarism and totalitarian warfare. The crisis days of Sennacherib’s invasion, buried in the pages of Isaiah, will be illustrated from the King’s own story. Mr. Blaiklock is Senior Lecturer in Classics at Auckland University College, and is well known as a lecturer on many subjects concerned with archaeology, particularly that of the Old Testament.

An invitation is extended by the Whangarci Borough Council to all citizens to hear Mr. E. M. Blaiklock at the Town Hall on Wednesday, September 20, at 8 p.rn. No collection. No charge for admission. 170
