Can U.S. Keep Out of War? Mrs Roosevelt Asks
WASHINGTON. September 16. In a statement to the press, Mrs Roosevelt said:.
“The minute wars begin, they spread. Nobody knows whether this country can keep out.” Mrs Roosevelt added that the problems involved must be met by the world as a v/hole, not just by the people who fight a war. The Neutrality Amendment Bill to be introduced in Congress is expected to be somewhat different in form from the bill which was rejected. Colonel Charles Lindbergh, in a broadcast address, pleaded- that the United States should stay out of the war.
He said: “If the United States enters Europe’s quarrels, in wartime, it must stay in them in peace-time.”
The war has cost the United States taxpayers 112,000,000 dollars in the current fiscal year, states the Budget Bureau, which is estimating for further outlay on expansion of the peace-time forces.
