Russell Town Board Election Extraordinary
ISiiecial to “Northern Advocate.”! RUSSELL, This Day.
Little interest was shown in yesterday’s election-extraordmary for the vacancy caused on the Russel! Town Board by the resignation of the woman member, Mrs E. ¥l. Lindauer. Of the total of 273 on the roll, only 110 bothered to. record their votes, the result being a clear-cut win for Mr Leon Warne, with a majority of twenty votes. The elected commissioner received 65 votes and Mr G. R. Rotherham 45.
Mr Leon Warne, senior partner of the boat-building firm of Warne Eros.,
has had sixteen years’ residence in Russell, and has always taken a keen interest in the progress of the town. His associations with the school committee in the past, the hall committee and Bay of Islands Swordfish and Mako Shark Club has brought him into prominence in the district, and his inclusion on the town board, his first association in this direction, will be received with congratulation by all, including the non-voters.
