Towai
The August meeting of the Towai W.U.F.U. was rather poorly attended owing to weather conditions. However, a very sociable time was spent, with afternoon tea making an appreciated Interlude. It was decided, owing to several requests, that future meetings be held on the third Thursday of the month, instead of Wednesday, as previously. Dental Clinic Social. A very pleasant social evening was held by committee and parents in the Towai school for the purpose of raising funds for the district’s share in the Centennial dental clinic at Hikurangi. The evening was well attended. Community singing, dancing, games and competitions all did their bit to a very merry evening. The two competitions were won by Mesdames Hutchinson and C. Allan respectively. The novelty lucky number was won by Mr H. Hauraki. Mrs Shepherd supplied all music required and Mrs L. Kelly proved a very efficient M.C. A dainty supper was supplied by the hostesses and enjoyed by all. A tap dance was executed by little Miss Paterson, and Maori songs were given by the Akerama Maori adults. A song, with guitar accompaniment, was given by Mr H. Hauraki, Mr J. Grey also sang.
