POLAND ACCEPTS CHALLENGE
United Nation Ready To Resist Historic Enemy GAS BOMBS DROPPED, WARSAW ALLEGES

IT IS REPORTED THAT MARTIAL LAW HAS BEEN PROCLAIMED THROUGHOUT POLAND. MARSHAL SMIGLYRIDZ HAS BEEN APPOINTED COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THE POLISH FORCES.
President Moseicki has also designated Marshal Smigly-Ridz to succeed (him in the event of his death. -
The Premier, General Slawoj-Sklaclowski, addressing ■ment, said:'

“ War has been imposed upon us ‘‘ We accept the Challenge.
“We have been attacked and we, are fighting. “We shall win this war because Joseph Pilsiidski taught us how to win liberty and how to defend it.
“We shall be victorious under the supreme command Marshal Smigly-Ridz by the Holy Passion of Our Lord. “We are in the second day of war.
“The rush of tremendous historic events holds no terrors for ns, “We know the fortunes of war are changeable, but the unconquerable Polish army will defeat the historic enemy of our country, and crush Teutonic arrogance and haughtiness.”
A member, speaking on behalf of the Ukranians, said: “We Ukrainians are already shedding our blood for Poland. Today old political quarrels are forgotten. We fight shoulder to shoulder with the Poles for the common ideal of human liberty and national independence.
The Polish Ambassador in London today announced ' that German planes had dropped gas bombs on towns.
A statement issued by the Polish embassy in London says it is officially reported that Germany treacherously attacked Poland a few hours after the Polish Ambassador in Berlin had informed the Reich that Poland was sympathetic in her attitude to the peace efforts being made by Britain.
There was simultaneous action, including tank attacks, on three fronts. The aggression met with resolute defence.
