“An Evil Old Man”

WASHINGTON, July 27. Mr J. N. Garner (Vice-President of the U.S.) is a “labour-baiting, pokerplaying, whiskey-drinking evil old man.” With this statement uttered at the Congressional hearing, where Mr J. L. Lewis charged the Vice-President with opposing Labour, the C. 1.0. leader launched a serio-comic political incident. Mr Garner, when asked to comment on the statement, only chuckled, but the Texas delegation to Congress immediately met in a caucus, and issued a pronouncement expressing “deep resentment and indignation at this Unwarranted and unjustified attack on Mr Garner’s private life.”
