Mutual Insurance Against War Damage
LONDON, July 27.
In a printed reply to a question in the House of Commons on the possibility of evolving a scheme for mutual protection against risk of war damage to fixed property in private ownership, the Financial Secretary to. the Treasury, Captain H. F. C. Crookshank, states that the following have agreed to assist the Government by forming the conference which was announced in the House of Commons on July 17: Viscount Weir, managing director of G. and J. Weil’, Ltd., Glasgow; Sir Ernest Harvey, former Deputy-Gov-ernor of the Bank of England; Sir Walter Benton Jones, chairman of United Steel Companies, Ltd.; Sir William Clare Lees, managing, director of the Bleachers’ Association, Ltd.; and Sir Alan Rae Smith, a chartered accountant.
Captain Crookshank hopes to convene the conference within the next few days, after which it will proceed with its inquiry under the chairmanship of Lord Weir.
