Kaitaia A Juniors Do The Trick
Despite the fact that a good number of prominent players deserted their clubs to see the major attraction at Whang.arei, Mangonui club fixtures
were carried on as usual. With the result of the senior competition practically a foregone conclusion for Kaitaia B, little interest was shown by their players. Awanui had a possible chance of overhauling the leaders, but extinguished the possibility by surprisingly losing to Kaitaia A, composed principally of juniors. Moss Costello, Kaitaia's captain, one of the four regular seniors who turned out, again showed the loss he will be to Northern football by scoring all of Kaitaia's points. The game is expected to be his last for Mangonui. Kaitaia E, though somewhat weakened. carried on their winning way against Mangonui, and at Ahipara, Manukau were unlucky to be defeated by Houhora, Freddy Evans’ boot again turning the tide in the Northern team’s favour.
High School at last gained the third grade ascendancy in a splendid match against Ahipara. and now seem certain to win the Trigg Memorial Shield. Results were.—
Senior: Kaitaia A 6. Awanui 3; Houhora 6. Ahipara 5; Kaitaia B 14. Man-
gonui 3. Junior: Kaitaia B 6. Herekino 3; Awanui B forfeited to Houhora: Whangape defaulted to Awanui A. Third Grade: High School 11, Ahipara 8: Kaitaia 6, Awanui 3.
