Awanui Lose Last Championship Chance

Those patrons, who were unable to visit Whangarei were thoroughly satisfied with the showing of Kaitaia A’s new team, which defeated Awanui for the first time in three years. The latter, without their captain, Wally Cooper, had far more of their regular players than the home side.

Old Boys were too strong for High School in the junior match played as the first curtain-raiser to the main game, and won by nine points to nil. For Old Boys, Ferguson scored two tries, and L. James one try.

Whangarei Holds Shield From Otamatea Challenge

The Whangarei primary school representatives showed better combination in the second curtain-raiser to the main game, and withstood Otamatea’s challenge for the Cadbury-Fry-Hud-son Shield by six points to nil. After being compelled to touch down to save from Otamatea attacks at the opening of the game, Clark opened 'a Whangarei offensive, which was sustained, and Matthews went over well out. The kick was not taken.
