Communists Said To Rum Maritime Unions

(Received 12 Neon) SAN FRANCISCO, July 20. A well-known lawyer, Aaron Sapiro. in giving evidence m the case against Harry Bridges, charged with Communistic activities, stated that in 1936 Bridges told him he was running the Communist Party, and that the Communist Party was running the maritime unions on the Pacific Coast. Bridges also said that these unions could “destroy a man m 24 hours.” Witness further stated that Browder, loader of the Communist Party of America. said to him In 1936; “1 know Bridges. He is one of the hardest members we have to handle in the party.” Counsel for the defence attempted to impinge Sapiro’s credibility by showing that he was debarred from practice by the Federal Court in 1930.
