Northland Herd Improvement Association

The constitution of the Whangarei Group Herd-Testing Association in the Northland Herd Improvement Association was explained by Mr N. Browne, herd resting officer, at the annual meeting of shareholders of the Maungatapere Co-op. Dairy Co.. Ltd., on Thursday. Mr Browne said that under the new organisation the Whangarei, Dargavillc, Bay of Islands and Kaitaia herdtesting organisations were to bo brought under one heading. To compensate the association for increased costs, a grant of ]/- per cow was being received from the New Zealand Dairy Board, together with a similar grant from the Government, so that the fee of 4/7 to the farmer per cow would remain about the same. The ‘Northland association will be under the control of one officer at Whangarei, and Mr Browne is to remain as herd testing officer in the Whangarei district.

In addition, the Dairy Board is supplying a fields officer to act. as supervisor to the herd testing activities of the association.
