Omahuta Farmers Favour Set Price

The opinion that the principle o£ the guaranteed price was satisfactory and should be supported was expressed by members at the July meeting of the Omahuta Farmers’ Union, held in the school on. Tuesday evening. Members were unanimous in their desire to see the scheme continue, working satisfactorily and not bo scrapped in favour of former methods. The delegate to the- next sub-pro-vincial conference to be held ,at Kaitaia was instructed to bring this opinion forward should discussions on the subject arise. Whangaroa-Hoklanga Link. Desirability, from a defence point of view, of the road from Omahuta being constructed to link up with the Pupuke road in the Whangaroa county, was discussed and a tracing is to be made of the proper route and forwarded to the right authority. There is just over four miles of road required to join the two points .and. if this gap was constructed, people of Northland would have the most direct route between Whangaroa and Hokianga harbours—a point which is of some value when planning for defence. General Matters. Replies were received from communications addressed to the State Forest Department in regard to the providing of firebreaks in Northland forests. This matter, meanwhile was held in abeyance. Moans of obtaining new members were discussed, and it is thought that the strength of the branch will be greatly increased in the near future.
