Fairburn Satisfied With Balance of Big Loan

Messrs O. Fisher and Coulter, representing the Fairburn ratepayers, waited on the Mangonui County Council at its meeting on Wednesday with regard to the unexpended balance from the £54.000 loan. They asked that this money should be spent in accordance with the conditions of the loan on the Fairburn road between the Pamapuria finger post and Duncan’s Road bridge.
The foots as brought out at a meeting at Fairburn were restated by Mr Fisher, who asked that the council make an adjustment releasing the balance of the loan for its rightful purpose.
Mr Coulter said the road between the finger post and Duncan's bridge was subject, in places, to flood and needed raising. £1313 Still Available. The clerk that in 1932 there was £1542 to the credit of the loan. A portion had boon spent on Fisher's bridge, and the amount now stood at £1313, which would be available for expenditure as soon as the Highways Board approved of any now construction work on the road. Cr. Hoskin: If we get a subsidy of £3 for £1 the sum to be extended will be £5254. Preparation of Proposals. Mr Hoskin moved that the engineer prepare proposals and specifications for construction work on the Fairburn's main highway from the junction of Victoria Valley road with Fairburn’s road to Duncan's bridge and that application be made for a Government subsidy of £3 for £l. Mr Fisher suggested that Mr Packwood, district engineer, be asked to visit the district so that he and Mr Torrio could go into the nature of the work to be done with the settlers. The motion was carried.
