SCENE OF SECRET ACTIVITY. —The house from which a secret underground railway tunnel beneath the Franco-Belgian frontier was nearly completed when it was discovered by the Customs authorities. It was first noticed when earth was being constantly brought from a chateau near the Belgian frontier, with the result that a raid was carried out and a 20ft shaft connecting-with a 50ft gallery was found in the cellars. Narrow-gauge railway lines were being laid and detailed plans were found for a complete underground railway beneath the frontier.
