Slid 500 Feet Down Mt. Egmont

f special 10 “Northern Advocate ”l NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. Five thousand feet up on the northern side of Mt. Egmont a boy and girl slipped on frozen snow and slid more than 500 feet down a snowcovered, rock-strewn valley in the darkness of Saturday night. In spite of many abrasions and painful cuts, the two were able to climb the ridge back to the track lower down. They were met by another climbing party and were then helped back to the North Egmont Hostel. The boy was Roy Warren, aged 16, son of Mr and Mrs T. F. Warren, of New Plymouth. He suffered a jagged flesh wound on the head; severe cuts to the shoulders and back, abrasions and concussion. His face was also badly scratched and his chest and both hands covered with cuts and abrasions. .The girl, Miss D. Holmes, aged about 18, of New Plymouth, suffered cuts to the face, head and body.
