Riots End In Pitched Battle
MINNEAPOLIS, July 15. A series of riots, arising out of the Works Progress Administration employees’ strike, culminated in a pitched battle in the streets of Minneapolis city, m which police in armoured cars, and armed with riot guns and tear gas, fought the strikers, who used bricks and sticks. One striker was killed and 17 others were injured. Later, the mayor announced that the city authorities refused responsibility for the further alteration of relief works “in order to avert civil war."
