Relief Strikers Dismissed
(Received 1.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, July 12.
Thousands of dismissal notices were sent out to striking Works Progress Administration workers to-night, after President Roosevelt, in spite of a move within Congress to restore the union wage rate, ordered that the Works Progress Administration Act should be enforced'.
Colonel Francis Harrington, W.P.A. administrator, threatened to “crack down” on men who are not striking, but are adopting go-slow tactics. The majority of the strikers are skilled workers who object to working 150 hours a month, instead of 50 for the same income.
