Japs. Bomb Chungking

(Received 2.30 p.m.) CHUNGKING. July 7

Sixty Japanese aeroplanes bombed Chungking and set fire to a large area along the waterfront. The British gunboat, Falcon, was almost hit. The casualties wore small.

Army headquarters announce that during the war in China they have brought down 672 Chinese aeroplanes, and destroyed 196 on the ground. Over 7000 tons of bombs were dropped on military establishments. Japanese troops claimed that 393 Russian ’planes have been shot down in Manchukuo since May.
