Britain’s Formidable Air Defences
LONDON, July 3,
The Secretary of State for Air, Sir Kingsley Wood, speaking in Shropshire, said that Britain, helped- by scientific inventioms, how possessed formidable forms of defence, which would make any air attack on the country a highly dangerous operation. The machines now going into service certainly were as good 'as the best anywhere in the world. '' Some indication of British efforts could be obtained by the fact that a sum of nearly £2,000,000 a-'week was being spent on aircraft alone. The recruits who joined the Royal Air Force last week totalled 781, cotnptared with 436 in the corresponding week of last year. This brings the total entry of pilots, observers,, airmen and boys since April 1, to 12,265, compared with 4676 for the corresponding period of last year.
