Moerewa A. And P. Assn.’s Successful Year
Outstanding success had favoured the second annual show and gymkhana staged by the Moerewa A. and F. Association last March.
This statement was made by the president, Mr. A. N. Mitchell, in his report to the second annual meeting ct the association last week. “The gate receipts and entries in all classes showed almost ICO per cent, increase over last year,” said Mr. Mitchell. “The balance sheet shows income £358 5/6 including £SO 0/5 balance from 1938 • show, and expenditure £245 16/3, leaving a balance of £ll2 9/3. With cash received since closing the books, and allowing for £35 prize money on the judging of porkers in London, the cash account will show a credit balance of £93 1/9 which is very satisfactory considering that the entrance fees were reduced, and the prize money in a number of the classes was increased 100 per cent. The membership stands at 88 financial members. Improvements to Park. “Since holding the 1938 show, many improvements had been made to Simson Park by the domain board. The grounds were levelled, stalls provided for the horses and cattle, and pens for the pigs and sheep, and a large hall was erected for indoor exhibits. We are indebted to Mr. Leaity for his efforts in having the improvements made and for his interest in the association.
“Acting on the suggestion of Mr. C. P. Butler of the Northland District Pig Council, your committee organised the “Northland Porker Pig Championship.” For a new association this was a bold venture, but it was a decided success, and will do much to improve the type of porker for the export trade. The generous response of £65 towards the prize money, .and a silver cup valued £25, made by a number of firms and others interested, shows that the competition was recognised by the donors as one of importance and of interest to the pig industry, and worthy of support. One hundred and thirty-four entries were received in the competition including a number of small farmers. We have to thank all the exhibitors and trust they will continue to support this annual competition.”
