Cypress Trees For Whangarei Streets
Requesting permission to plant five decorative cypress trees, of the form which has columar growth, on the roadside outside his property in Shortland Street, Mr R. N. Stanley wrote to the Whangarei Borough Council last night.
It was his proposal to plant them cm a line on the road reserve three feet from the boundary and five feet from the inner edge of the footpath. The limited root-growth of the trees could not interfere with the footpath, and their compact perpendicular growth at no time could be an, annoyance to pedestrians or interfere with overhead wires.
“I have witnessed the wonderful effect of these trees growing in thoroughfares in parts of the United States,” the letter added. The request was referred for the consideration of the Parks Committee of the council.
