The Rev. A. A. Carswell and his wife, of the Canadian Holiness Mission, are reported to have been killed in China when Japanese bombs on Friday destroyed the Canadian Mission at Shangteh,' where they were stationed.
The United States army authorities have perfected a powerful anti-tank gun which fires a 1| inch shell. This missile will penetrate li inch armour plate two-thirds of a mile away.
A message from Canberra states that the Minister of Customs has directed the Tariff Board to investigate .the operations of Australian Consolidated Industries on the ground that the company appeared to be taking unlue .advantage of tariff protection by charging excesive prices for its glass products, and making very high, profits.
The National register of manpower and wealth will be taken between July 17 and 29, says a message from Canberra. Forms will be available, on July 17 and the Government expects these to be filled in and returned by July 29.
