Punaruku Scores Again
Pimaruku School, via Hikurangi
Dear Kupe
On Wednesday. June 14. wc had a dance to raise money for the Centennial trip. When we arrived, many lovely gaily coloured dresses were placed on a row of desks, and were on sale. A box of lovely big, red delicious apples were being sold by Marama Pore and Miss Mataka. In a jiffy the apples were gone. The desks were then cleared out. and dancing was commenced by the grown-ups. While the dancing continued, people were buying tickets in a competition for a cake, which was made lay me. Still more tickets were sold in a competition for two stuffed chickens, presented by Mr and Mrs Strongman.
After many enjoyable ■ dances the children adjourned to the second class room, while adults continued dancing. Mr and Mrs Long took us in there for games, which we enjoyed very much.
Later, when we had finished our games, we joined the adults in dancing. While waiting for another dance. Miss Mataira, Miss Sophy Paratene, Rae Peters and Mack Peters gave us some items, which the audience enjoyed. Mr Long won the cake and Rae Peters won the chickens. Mack Peters did the hula for the audience. Action songs were done by school children and adults.
The night was a success and every-->n enjoyed it. Everyone went home full of news and as fit as any fiddle. Best of luck to you and Princess Raranga and S.P. Best of wishes —a Loyal Maiden, FREDA THOMPSON.
