Current Magazines

From Gordon and Gotch, through Harold Menzies, has come a parcel of current magazines, which are obtainable from local booksellers.

A new nightwatchman story is a feature of the Strand Magazine for June. Those who have enjoyed the delightful creations of W. W. Jacobs will derive rare delight in this latest story by the gifted portrayer of the sea and barge-going characters whom he has made immortal. The magazine is full of good things supplied by famous writers, among whom may be mentioned Gilbert Frankau and Rafael Sabatini. A very interesting illustrated section deals with Palestine, and another reveals the canine pets of famous people. In addition, there are many stories and articles of a lightsome nature, which help to make the June Strand a very readable production.

Pearson’s Magazine for May is an interesting number from the points of view of letterpress and illustrations, which cover a wide field of news and views. Special articles include “Warriors in Wigs,” which tells the story of Sir Patrick Hastings, the noted British barrister. The fiction section is of a high order, and the features include subjects regarding which every man and woman is interested. A very readable number from every point of view. Mother and Home, June number, contains a free fashion book of “Home Dressmaking”—l2 pages of the newest fashions for grown-ups and children, including knitted underclothes for a small boy. There are three free patterns to make a dress for an adult in 36in. bust size, a charming little dress for a child of 5-6 years, and a bracer suit for a little boy of 3-4 years. “What of Their Future” is a helpful article on the future careers of children. There are two illustrated pages of up-to-date gadgets.
