With several of their former players back on the field, Kamo put out their strongest team to date, and Hikurangi’s task was a heavy one. Play was anybody's in the first spell, but in the later stages the visitors held a big territorial advantage, and secured the only try of the game. In a fast, open game at Portland, the home team took a narrow decision from Kensington by 12 points to 10.
