King And Qeeen Are Hosts At Dinner

(Received 2.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June 10. Before entraining for New York shortly before midnight, Their Majesties performed the last official act of their visit to the Capitol by playing host to the President and Mrs Roosevelt at dinner at the British Embassy. The guests numbered only 36. In many ways, it was a counterpart of the previous night’s State dinner at White House, but it was even more formal, and long toasts were omitted, since there seemed no point in repeating phrases already uttered. So it was simply “To the President” and “To the King.” The table was of walnut, set with Government silver. Running back to King George at one end was a tall screen, telling the brave tale of Drake and the Spanish Armada. Some of,the plates were of silver and others of fine china. Her Majesty is Sunburnt, The Queen wore a Victorian frock of deep rose tulle, with a diamond tiara in her hair and two diamond necklaces about her neck, which still showed traces of sunburn from the long ride during the previous day’s procession. A dainty diamond strand was strapped about her wrist. Their Majesties’ historic visit to Washington ended when they boarded the Royal train for New York at 11.45 p.m.

No formal farewell at the station had been planned, but, at the last minute, it was decided that such a leave-taking would be tinctured with abruptness, so the Secretary of State, Mr Cordell Hull, was on hand to say farewell on behalf of the capital.
