Baron von Neurath, Protector of Bohemia and Moravia, who, it is stated, has now suspended punitive measures at Kladno. As a sequel to the murder of a German policeman, he banned open-air meetings, closed cinemas and schools, and deposed the Mayor, City Council and police. Born in 1873, von Neurath entered the German diplomatic service, and from 1930 to 1932 was Ambassador to the Court of St. James. In the latter year he became Minister for Foreign Affairs, linking up with the Nazi party. His appointment as Protector of Bohemia and Moravia followed the Czech Government’s capitulation to the Nazi regime.
