Eag Snatchers.—A middle-aged woman, Miss Alice Molloy, of 53 Park Road, Grafton, had her bag snatched from her hand while she was walking down Queen Street. Auckland, near the entrance of Myers Park, at 8.45 p.m. on Friday. In spite of a chase by two civilians and a search by detectives. the man escaped.

National War Funds Council.—Colonel H. E. Avery, who succeeded the late Colonel G. Mitchell on the National War Funds Council, was welcomed at Wellington by the chairman of the executive, Sir Charles Luke, at a meeting of the council. Sir Charles said Colonel Avery’s knowledge of matters concerning returned soldiers would be of great value to the council.

Ninth Smash And Grab Raid. —A smash, and grab raid was made at Wellington early on Saturday morning on the premises of J. B. Lauchlan, Ltd., watchmakers and jewellers. Between 15 and 20 watches were stolen. This makes the ninth occasion in about two years that one or other of the firm’s shops have been broken into and theft committed.

Westland Hoads Snow-lilocked. —A heavy fall of snow during the weekend has blocked both the Arthur s Fass-Olira Gorge and Lewis Pass Roads, according to advice received yesterday. After 1 a.in. yesterday it was impossible far cars to get through the Otira route.

Bank Officers’ Guild. —The report presented at. the annual conference ol the Bank Officers’ Guild revealed that the membership is now 3117, being 94 per cent of the staff of the trading banks. Mr Thomas Gordon, .aged 77. was found hanging in an nuthouse at Burnside, Dunedin, at 11.30 on Saturday morning.
