Kaikohe Production 14% Less
KAIKOHE, This Day
Production at the- Kaikohe Co-oper-ative Dairy Company’s factory for the past season, which ended on May 33, is down 14 per cent. The lowest point to which the supplies fell was in May, when production was 06 per cent, below normal. “Some factories have complained about the increased costs this season,” said the secretary, Mr N.-,A. Ellery, when .interviewed, “blit from the rough figures which-1 have at present at my disposal I find that the costs of bringing the cream from the farm gate f.o.b. has increased by only .lid. “This, no doubt, has been brought about by the decrease in production and supplies,” he stated.
“There are certain essential services which a .factory has To pay for, irrespective of whether the production
is up or down.” Collection Maintained.
Mr Ellery said that the company had thought of reducing its present twiccweekly collection on account of a further decline in supplies, but, after consideration, it had been decided to continue the twice-weekly service.
Speaking of the distribution of butter, Mr Ellery said that the factory was now concentrating entirely on the local Kaikohe market.
“We cannot send butter to Auckland for export,” he said, “as wo have to use all our production for the local
market.”
