Rough Tactics Mar Otiria v. Kaikohe Game
Dirty tactics on the part of the Otiria team marred the Otiria-Kaikohe match, which resulted in a draw.
The first spell was devoid of good play, and even the kicking of both teams was of a .very poor standard. There was no score at the changeover.
The second spell had not been going long when Webster, playing for Kaikohe, fumbled an easy pass practically on his lino. The ball rolled out, and from the line-out P. Cherrington obtained possession and raced over to score for Otiria near the posts. J. Wbarerau missed an easy kick. Play travelled up and down the field for some time, until Kaikohe was responsible for quite a good passing rush, which, however, was ruined when Webster was pushed out on the lino. Kaikohe failed to capitalise its good position at this stage, and it was not until R. Squire took the ball at his toe from a line-out, that the team was again within striking distance.
A loose scrum went down, and when Kaikohe hooked, C. Howard dived over, to score in the corner. D. Webster failed to convert from a difficult angle. Mr. Robertson refereed.
