France’s African Mandates

PARIS, June 1

A member of the Chamber of Deputies, M. Jean de Beaumont, has opened a petition in Parliament which has already been supported, by many Deputies and Senators, demanding that the Government should declare French Togoland and the French Cameroons henceforth French territory.

M. de Beaumont points out that the fact that France agreed to administer the territories under the control of the League of Nations does not moan that she renounced her right on them by conquest, which is the only right recognised by the German Reich, to which they formerly belonged.

Mr and Mrs Chamberlain, who are still in the country, will go to Chequers to-day for the week-end, and it is probable that they will return to Downing Street on Sunday night.
